Carl Loewe monument in Löbejün

The Carl-Loewe-Monument is a listed monument in the village of Löbejün in the municipality of Wettin-Löbejün in Saxony-Anhalt . The monument is listed as a minor monument under registration number 094 55247 in the local monument register.

The current bust made of porphyry stone was erected in 1947. But it was not the first bust for the composer Carl Loewe in Löbejün. In 1896, on the 100th birthday of Carl Loewe, the sculptor Fritz Schaper created a memorial bust for Loewe's place of death, Kiel . He gave the city of Löbejün a free cast of it. The cast stood on the school square until 1939 and was then moved to the market square. During the Second World War , the cast was melted down as a metal donation and replaced with a plaster cast . This plaster cast was again the model for today's bust.
