Carl von Ossietzky Prize for Contemporary History and Politics
The Carl von Ossietzky Prize for Contemporary History and Politics is awarded by the city of Oldenburg every two years on May 4th , the anniversary of the death of the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Carl von Ossietzky . The prize is endowed with 10,000 euros. It was awarded in 1981 and first awarded in 1984.
The award is given to works on the life and work of Carl von Ossietzky or on the resistance against National Socialism or on democratic tradition and the present in Germany.
The Carl von Ossietzky Prize should not be confused with the Carl von Ossietzky Medal of the International League for Human Rights or the Carl von Ossietzky Medal of the GDR Peace Council.
