Matthias von Hellfeld

Matthias Georg von Hellfeld (born August 1, 1954 in Bremen ) is a German historian , journalist and publicist .

Life

Von Hellfeld studied social sciences and history at the University of Cologne and was born in 1985 with the dissertation Bündische Jugend und Hitlerjugend. On the history of adaptation and resistance 1930–1939 for Dr. phil. PhD . He then worked for four years as an editor at WDR and for two years at the newly founded private broadcaster VOX .

Since 1994 he has been a moderator at Deutschlandfunk and an editor at Deutschlandfunk Nova and Deutsche Welle . He published a. a. on National Socialism , right-wing extremism and European history . Von Hellfeld has been a freelance journalist and lecturer since 1978. Since 2011 he has been a lecturer in the master’s course “OnlineRadio” at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg and has been giving a three-trimester lecture on “The Genesis of Europe” and the “Path to Modernism - the long 19th and the short 20th century ”. Von Hellfeld is a mentor and liaison professor at the Friedrich Ebert Foundation . In the winter semester 2014/15 he held an exercise in "Journalistic and Scientific Writing" at the Justus Liebig University in Giessen .

He was a partner in a television documentary production company. Since May 2016, von Hellfeld has been editor of the history format “One Hour History” at Deutschlandfunk Nova, which connects historical topics with current political developments. “One Hour History” was nominated for the German Radio Prize in 2017. In addition to the show, he and Holger Klein produce the weekly podcast format WRINT History Lessons .
