Bernhard vom Brocke

Bernhard vom Brocke (born September 3, 1939 in Wuppertal ) is a German historian and university professor who has researched primarily on the history of science and technology in the 20th century.

Life

Vom Brocke studied history , Protestant theology and social sciences at the Georg-August University in Göttingen , the Free University of Berlin and at the University of Hamburg . He graduated in 1966 the state examination for teaching at secondary schools and was in 1969 when Gerhard Oestreich Dr. phil. PhD . He then was a research assistant , lecturer and professor of modern history at the Philipps University of Marburg between 1967 and 1980 . After a stay as a research fellow at Harvard University , he became a research fellow at the then Max Planck Institute for History in Göttingen .

From 1993 until his retirement, vom Brocke taught modern history and the history of science at the University of Kassel .

He has been an elected member of the Leibniz Society of Sciences in Berlin since 1999 and chairman of its historical commission since 2001.
