Carl August Bodenstein

Carl August Bodenstein (born June 30, 1900 in Einbeck , † August 10, 1973 in Neu-Isenburg ) was a German chemist , factory director and local politician .

Life

Bodenstein was born in Einbeck in 1900. After graduating from high school, he studied chemistry at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . There he became active in 1919 with the Holzminda fraternity . After completing his studies, a doctorate followed in 1926 . He then worked for 3 years as a university assistant at the Chemical Institute of the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main , where he met his future employer, Carl Schleussner . At the time of the revolutionary change from the glass plate to celluloid as a layer carrier and thus to roll film , Bodenstein joined the ADOX company , developed his own layer carrier, which previously came from the USA and could be produced in-house from 1933. He also developed recipes and processes for making paper , set up a scientific department, became an authorized signatory and director in 1940 and finally plant manager of both plants in 1950; also when ADOX was taken over by DuPont in 1962 . He published numerous scientific publications on the production of film bases and was responsible for many patents in this field. After 36 years, he retired on June 30, 1965.

Bodenstein was a long-time member of the Society of German Chemists . In 1949 he was one of the founders of the non-profit housing construction company Neu-Isenburg, where he worked as a member of the supervisory board and deputy chairman of the supervisory board . He also volunteered in the trade association for the chemical industry . Since it was founded in 1955, he has been involved in the animal welfare association Neu-Isenburg und Umgebung e. V. , whose chairmanship he took over in 1961 and with whom he built an animal shelter .

He was more and more concerned with local politics. 1960 as city ​​councilor of the CDU , 1964 as deputy city ​​councilor . In 1966 he was appointed to the voluntary city ​​council , which meant he worked in the department for European cooperation. Here he brought about a relationship with European partner cities for Neu-Isenburg, in particular with Hemel Hempstead . After the local elections in 1968, he remained an honorary city councilor, but then worked on different tasks, since departments for honorary city councilors were abolished. He died in Neu-Isenburg in 1973.
