Carl Böhm (film architect)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Böhm , also Karl Böhm (born January 11, 1882 in Zielenzig , German Reich , † July 28, 1942 in Berlin ) was a German film architect .

Live and act

The son of a bricklayer, born east of Frankfurt / Oder, received training as a sculptor and draftsman . After graduating, Böhm also worked in these professions. He was drafted in the war years from 1915 to 1917. In 1924, Carl Böhm switched to the film industry. At first he had to be content with smaller tasks, for example he created the sculptures for Arnold Fanck's alpine drama The Holy Mountain . In the following year Böhm designed his first film structures.

It was only with the dawn of the age of talkies that Carl Böhm was able to work regularly in this profession, mostly as the second architect who carried out the designs of colleagues, in his case Erich Czerwonski . Until Czerwonski died in an accident during the war in 1940, the two men formed a solid team. In the remaining two years of his life, Böhm was hardly active.
