Carl Braunhofer

Carl Braunhofer (* 1799 in Mondsee ; † May 17, 1846 in Nordhausen ) was an Austrian theater actor and director .

Life

Originally intended as a theologian, he tried his hand at singing in 1819, but was displeased and turned to drama.

He found his first better engagement in Bamberg. His next engagement was in Düsseldorf, followed by the court theater in Detmold. Due to the sickness of his wife, the singer Katharina Ravizza , he soon left Detmold.

He started with guest tours. In 1829 he became a member of the court theater in Mannheim, where he also worked as a director.

After 15 years of artistic activity, he turned his back on this place due to imbalances of all kinds and only appeared as a guest.

He died of pneumonia on May 17, 1846 in Nordhausen.

His son Julius Braunhofer was also a stage actor.
