Carl Fredrik Hill
Carl Fredrik Hill (born May 31, 1849 in Lund , † February 22, 1911 there ) was a Swedish painter and best known for his drawings. He is assigned to the era of impressionism .
Life
Born in the university town of Lund in southern Sweden in 1849, Hill studied painting against his father's wishes at the Stockholm Art Academy and continued his studies in France , where he lived and worked for several years. Inspired by the Barbizon school and especially by Corot's model, he mainly painted landscapes during this time.
In 1878, at the age of only 28, after the death of his father and a sister, he developed severe psychosis . After several years in hospital, he returned to Lund in 1883 and was cared for by his mother and sister until his death. During this time his significant graphic work was created.
In the last years of his life, Hill suffered from hallucinations and paranoia , which is also reflected in his drawings. Seven paintings and numerous drawings from his estate are in the archives of the Malmö Art Museum. One of his paintings is exhibited in the Swedish National Museum.
