resume

Carl Friedrich Meyer was the son of a vinegar manufacturer. He attended grammar school in his hometown of Quedlinburg until 1860 , after which he studied history and geography at the University of Halle . In 1864 he passed the teacher examination and went to the Friedrich Wilhelm School in Stettin , where he was to work for forty years.

He created maps for teaching purposes and organized hikes in the vicinity of Szczecin for his students. Carl Friedrich Meyer dealt with historical and geographical research on Szczecin and the surrounding area, in particular with the study of historical maps of Pomerania. He published the results in the annual report of the Geography Association in Stettin , in the monthly papers published by the Society for Pomeranian History, Archeology and Art , and in the programs of his Friedrich Wilhelm School.

Carl Friedrich Meyer was a member of the Geography Association in Stettin and its secretary. He gave lectures on the local history of Szczecin, in particular on the Buchheide .

On May 3, 1889, Carl Friedrich Meyer founded the Buchheide Association together with thirty other lovers of the Buchheide, was elected chairman and held the post for life. Hiking routes were marked out in the Buchheide, and stairs were built at steep places. Lookout points and playgrounds were created. He also arranged favorable connections between Szczecin and Buchheide from the railway administration.

Carl Friedrich Meyer was buried in the main cemetery in Szczecin . The following year, the Buchheide Association erected a memorial to its honorary chairman on the Holy Mountain with a relief, a work by the sculptor Ludwig Manzel (1858–1936). The relief was smashed after 1945 and the rubble buried on site.
