Carl Gottfried Klaehr (born on May 12, 1773 in Dresden ; died on May 16, 1842 in Meißen ) was a German comedy poet and porcelain painter .

Life

After training himself as a porcelain painter, Klaehr joined the Meissen porcelain factory in 1793, where he remained an employee until his retirement in 1828. In 1810 he wrote the festive poem The Consecration of Thanks to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the manufactory . In addition, he is the author of numerous rather undemanding comedies, 17 of which are still in print. Most of them appeared in both collective and individual editions. It is about conventional utility items, often presented with small musical interludes, with the usual mix-ups, disguises and intrigues.
