Carl Ludwig Rundt

Carl Ludwig Rundt (* 1802 in Königsberg ; † 1868 in Wiesbaden ) was a German architecture, landscape and vedute painter as well as a lithographer and court painter .

Life

Rundt learned the basics of painting in Königsberg. From 1822 to 1827 he studied at the Berlin Art Academy with Carl Joseph Begas, among others . In 1826 his first landscape paintings and portraits were shown in the Berlin exhibition. Here he began to paint views of buildings such as churches or interior views. He went on a trip to Italy, visited all the important art places there and came to Sicily, where he devoted himself in particular to architectural painting. After twelve years he first returned to Berlin in 1840, where he worked for some time and was appointed Prussian court painter in 1846. In the early 1850s, Rundt visited England to produce lithographic views of Oxford University . He also created lithographic views of the Marienburg Order Castle . Then he went back to Rome until 1858 and then to Paris. In 1861 he returned home to Berlin. He was mainly concerned with lithographic views of landmarks that appeared in large editions.
