Carl Maria Waldmeier (born October 15, 1884 in Düsseldorf ; † January 12, 1971 there ) was a German opera singer ( bass ) and theater actor .

Life

After completing a bank apprenticeship, Waldmeier worked as a bank clerk, at the same time he began studying singing with the well-known tenor Andreas Moers in Düsseldorf. He subsequently quit his job and completed his training at the Conservatory in Cologne . In 1912 he was signed to the opera house there , in 1915 he moved to the city ​​theater in Mainz , in the 1921/22 season he worked at the theater of Elberfeld-Barmen, followed by a two-year engagement at the state theater in Braunschweig . In 1924 he was engaged at the Düsseldorf Opera House , of which he was a member until 1944 and where he appeared as a guest until the mid-1950s.

Waldmeier's extensive repertoire included the “Rocco” in Fidelio , the “Daland” in the Flying Dutchman , the “Bartolo” in the Barber of Seville , the “van Bett” in Zar and Zimmermann , the “Falstaff” in the Lustige Frau von Windsor and the "cellar master Hans" in Undine . Since he also has acting talent, he was also used numerous times in operettas.
