The Journey to the Poinsettia ( Norwegian : Reisen til julestjernen ) is a fairy tale game by the playwright Sverre Brandt published in 1924 . It was performed in many Scandinavian theaters and filmed in 1976 by director Ola Solum and again in 2012 by Nils Gaup under the title " The Legend of the Poinsettia ".

The little king's daughter sets out unnoticed at night to look for the poinsettia. Since she cannot be found the next day, her mother sets out to find her. Neither of them return. The king then curses the poinsettia, which will no longer come to the kingdom at Christmas time.

Twelve years later the king's daughter returns, but her father does not recognize her. She then sets off again to find the poinsettia. She learns that he will only return when she desires him dearly. From then on, the poinsettia comes back to the kingdom and the family is happily reunited.
