from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl Oscar Boije af Gennäs (* July 7, 1849 , † 1923 ) was a Swedish collector of guitar sheet music.

Life

He came from the Swedish barons of the Boije af Gennäs and worked as a civil engineer and civil servant for the life insurance company Victoria in Stockholm .

Boije af Gennäs was an amateur guitarist and also composed occasionally. A Marcia funebre by Boije af Gennäs, dedicated to Otto Hammerer, was published in issue 8 of the communications of the Augsburg Free Association for the Promotion of Good Guitar Music .

Boije af Gennäs gained importance through his collection of sheet music editions of guitar music, mainly from the 19th century. The collection comprises around 1000 documents, including sheet music by Dionisio Aguado , Matteo Carcassi , Ferdinando Carulli , Mauro Giuliani , Luigi Rinaldo Legnani and Fernando Sor . In addition to prints, the collection also contains autographs by the Austrian composer Johann Kaspar Mertz , who his widow sold to Boije af Gennäs after his death.

The collection came to the Statens Musikbibliotek (formerly Kungiga Musikaliska Akademiens Biblioteket ) in Stockholm in 1924 as an inheritance . It was completely digitized there, the digitized versions are available online as Boijes Samling . Boijes Samling thus offers, alongside the Rischel & Birket-Smith Collection (RBS) in the Danish Royal Library in Copenhagen , one of the largest online collections of digitized early sheet music editions of guitar music.
