Carl Otto Selbach

Carl Otto Selbach (born August 18, 1843 in Cürten , † June 20, 1915 in Niederlahnstein ) was a German politician. From 1874 to 1904 he was mayor of the city of Euskirchen .

Life

Selbach was mayor of the city of Euskirchen for 30 years from October 1, 1874 to September 30, 1904 . He was very well recognized by the population and was unanimously confirmed as mayor for another twelve years after his first term in office in 1886. During his tenure, the population of Euskirchen doubled from around 5500 to 10500. Selbach has been very committed to improving the city's infrastructure . In 1876 he founded the volunteer fire brigade and built the Martinsschule in 1885 and the post office on the station forecourt in 1886. Under him, the Euskirchen waterworks were founded in 1887 and the district court was built in Kirchstrasse. He campaigned for the connection of Euskirchen to the railway network and took care of the renovation and extension of the old town hall from 1900 to 1901.

On the occasion of his 25th anniversary as mayor, the city of Euskirchen granted him honorary citizenship on November 7, 1899 .
