Carl Prennel

Carl Prennel (born April 21, 1901 in Budapest , † January 14, 1968 in Passau ) was a German politician ( SPD ).

Life and work

After graduating from elementary school and attending the Neunkirchen public school, Prennel completed a commercial apprenticeship in Schottwien from 1916 to 1919 . Together with his parents, he moved to Germany in 1919 and settled in Passau. Here he joined the Central Association of Employees (ZdA) and initially worked as a warehouse clerk and travel agent in the food industry. He was employed as a warehouse keeper in 1922 and worked as the central warehouse administrator until the district consumption association was dissolved. He then worked in a law firm. From 1927 to 1931 he worked as a construction clerk at the Road and River Construction Office, and from 1931 to 1933 then as an employee at the Passau employment office.

After the National Socialists “came to power” , Prennel was arrested for political reasons, taken into “ protective custody ” for four weeks and then released from service. After that he was unemployed for a long time. He was later employed as a tobacco product salesman and had been an independent tobacco product wholesaler since 1938. From 1939 to 1945 he took part in the Second World War as a soldier in the air intelligence force. At the end of the war he was taken prisoner, from which he was released in 1947. After his release from captivity, Prennel continued to run his business. In 1955 he was hired again at the Passau employment office, where he was promoted to government inspector.

Political party

Prennel joined the Passau SPD in 1919.

MP

Prennel was a council member of the city of Passau from 1948 until his death and was elected to the district assembly of the district of Lower Bavaria in 1954. He was a member of the German Bundestag from November 9, 1955, when he replaced the late MP Walter Sassnick , until 1961. He was always drawn into parliament via the Bavarian state list.

Public offices

Prennel was second mayor of the city of Passau from 1948 to 1956.
