Carl Schultz (lawyer)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carl (Karl) Ludwig Friedrich Schultz (born April 29, 1835 in Groß Rogahn , Schwerin district, † April 25, 1907 in Schwerin ) was a German lawyer , city councilor and writer.

Life

Carl Schultz, son of a domain tenant , passed his Abitur at the Gymnasium Fridericianum Schwerin in autumn 1853 , then moved to the University of Göttingen and began to study philology. In 1853 he joined the Hannovera Göttingen fraternity . Due to a serious illness, he interrupted his philology studies after three semesters and from the winter semester 1854/55 studied law in Bonn, Berlin, Göttingen, Leipzig and Rostock. After passing his exams, he settled in Schwerin in 1860 as a lawyer. In addition, he was involved in local politics and was a member of the citizens' committee of the city of Schwerin for several years.

His interest in art was demonstrated on the one hand by the fact that he worked for a long time on the features section of the "Mecklenburgische Zeitung" and wrote reviews of theater performances in particular. On the other hand, he was active as a writer and wrote poems, some of which he published in the volume "song samples". Some of his satirical songs of mockery and fighting were published anonymously in the weekly Berlin magazine Kladderadatsch ; others, like his epic “Hans the Dreamer”, remained unpublished. Carl Schultz died in 1907 in the Sachsenberg sanatorium in Schwerin.
