Carl Zigrosser
Carl Zigroßer (born September 28, 1891 in Indianapolis , † 1975 in Montagnola ) was an American art historian . He was the curator of the Philadelphia Museum of Art Prints from 1941 to 1963 . In 1930, together with the New York artist Anthony Velonis , he developed serigraphy processes for printing on a wide variety of materials.
He was the son of the Austrian immigrant Hugo A. Zigrosser (1860–1935) and Emma Haller (* 1870). After graduating from Newark Academy in 1908 , he went to Columbia University to become a chemist.
He then worked for the New York picture dealer Frederick Keppel & Company, where he got to know the art trade and many well-known artists and collectors. In 1939 he received a Guggenheim grant .
