The Carlita Bay is a small bay on the west side of Cumberland West Bay in the north of South Georgia . It is located immediately west of Islet Point .
The bay was likely named Horseshoe Bay when exploring Cumberland West Bay on the HMS Dartmouth in 1920 . This name did not prevail, however, because there was already a bay of the same name south of Cape George , 24 km away . At the suggestion of the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee , it was given a new name in 1957. It is named after the whaling ship Carlita , built in 1907 by the fishing company Compañía Argentina de Pesca, founded by the Norwegian entrepreneur Carl Anton Larsen .
