Carlo Chelli

Carlo Chelli (* 1807 in Carrara ; † April 16, 1877 ibid) was an Italian sculptor .

Life

Carlo Chelli studied at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Carrara . While still a student, he won the competition for the allegorical statues Faith and Religion for the Gran Madre di Dio church in Turin in 1827 . In 1831 he won a scholarship for a stay in Rome , where he studied with Carlo Finelli , with the bas-relief Alexander at the feet of the high priest . From around 1840 he lived and worked in Bologna before returning to Rome in 1857.

Chelli created allegorical and religious statues and funerary monuments. He also received commissions in Chile through his brother Eusebio Chelli , who was an architect and professor of architecture and ornamentation in Santiago de Chile.
