Karl Wilhelm Heinrich Fritz Adam von Opel , Carlo von Opel for short (born May 15, 1941 in Mainz ) is an entrepreneur from the Opel family .

Carlo was born as the first son of Georg and Irmgard von Opel . He is a co-founder of the Chio Chips company . After Irmgard von Opel traveled to America in 1962, the family set up one of the first German production facilities for potato chips on their Petersau estate . The company's name consists of the initials C arlo, H einz and I rmgard of O pel. Initially, only potatoes from their own cultivation were processed by Hofgut Petersau , later production was expanded through regional contract cultivation . Carlo von Opel was managing director of Chio Chips until 1978.

In 1978 Carlo von Opel and Marion Schöntag married . Their son Alexander was born one year later, and their daughter Jeanette was born in 1982 .

In 1978 the Chio Chips company was sold to funny-frisch . Today the brand is one of Europe's market leaders for potato chips .

Carlo von Opel now runs the Petersau estate with extensive horse breeding . He is also active in various social functions. He is involved in the German Olympic Society and is chairman of the “Bushmen Company” initiative. Furthermore, as a non-party, he was a member of the Frankenthal City Council from July 1, 2004 to May 31, 2014 .

Carlo from Opel's company Chio Chips was the main sponsor of the former Bundesliga club SV Waldhof Mannheim . From 1974 to 1978 von Opel was president and from 1978 to 1996 a member of the executive committee of the football club. From September 16, 2009 to December 16, 2010 he was again a member of the Presidium.
