Carlos Balmaceda Saavedra

Carlos Balmaceda Saavedra (born April 8, 1879 in Santiago de Chile , † August 21, 1958 ibid) was a Chilean politician .

Life

Balmaceda Saavedra was a son of José Maria Balmaceda and his wife Amelia Saavedra Rivera. He completed school at the Colegio Inglés and the Instituto Nacional in his hometown. He then studied at the Universidad de Chile and was able to successfully complete this course with the rank of agricultural engineer .

Soon after, Balmaceda Saavedra married Marta Lazcano Valdés in his hometown and had four children with her.

President Pedro Montt Montt appointed Balmaceda Saavedra as Minister of Finance with effect from June 25, 1910. When Montt died a short time later and a government reshuffle was due, Balmaceda Saavedra lost this office on December 23 of the same year. He headed the foreign ministry of his country between July 26 and September 2, 1931; he succeeded Alberto Edwards Vives and was in turn replaced by Luis Izquierdo Fredes .

On August 21, 1958, Balmaceda Saavedra died at the age of 79 in Santiago de Chile, where he found his final resting place.
