Carlos Cortizo

Carlos Cortizo (born April 23, 1963 in Salvador da Bahia ) is a Brazilian choreographer and video artist .

Life

Cortizo was a dancer at the State Theater in Nuremberg under the direction of Jean Renshaw ; there he worked a. a. with William Forsythe and Rui Horta . Before that, Cortizo worked at the Stadttheater Heidelberg under the direction of Liz King and at the Theater Hagen under the direction of Richard Werlock . He was a guest at the Wuppertal Opera House, the Augsburg Municipal Theaters and the Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern. In Brazil he worked at the opera houses in Rio de Janeiro , Belo Horizonte , Curitiba and with the choreographer Maurice Béjart .

He practiced his teaching and choreography activities in Brazil, Austria , Switzerland and Germany . He is a guest lecturer at the state theaters in Kassel, Kiel, Braunschweig, Saarbrücken, Oldenburg, Schwerin, at the city theaters in Heidelberg, Gießen, Nordhausen, Hildesheim, Regensburg, in the Stuttgart production center, in the Tanzhaus NRW in Düsseldorf and in the choreographic center in Essen.

The Nuremberg- based freelance choreographer has been creating full-length dance works with multimedia elements since 1998 . He is a guest choreographer at the Staatstheater Kiel, the Stadttheater Hildesheim and Gießen and the Stadttheater Fürth / Kulturforum. The video productions for his choreographies “A matter of opinion” and “Flowing like water” have been recorded in the German Dance Archive in Cologne and in the Jiří Kylián Foundation in Prague.

Cortizo is the City of Nuremberg's 2006 Culture Promotion Prize winner.
