Carlos Dívar (2012)

José Carlos Dívar Blanco (born December 31, 1941 in Málaga , † November 11, 2017 in Madrid ) was a Spanish judge .

Carlos Dívar was President of the General Council of the Judiciary and, associated with it, President of the Supreme Court from September 2008 to June 2012. Before that he was President of the Audiencia Nacional de España (2001-2008), which makes him the only judge in Spain who has both President of the Audiencia Nacional as well as the Supreme Court. He resigned in June 2012 when a scandal over his embezzlement of public funds became known. Divar had made several unauthorized weekend trips to Marbella which had been paid for with public funds. The Supreme Court prosecutor did not call his actions illegal, but the sustained damage to his reputation and poor public opinion forced him to resign.
