Carlos Julio Pereyra Pereyra (born November 15, 1922 in Rocha , † February 9, 2020 in Montevideo ) was a Uruguayan politician , teacher and author.

Biography (excerpt)

The history and civic education teacher was elected in the 1958 elections for the 1959-193 legislature in the Consejo Departamental des Departamentos Rocha . In March 1964, Pereyra was a co-founder of the Movimiento Nacional de Rocha , to whose leading figure he later became. From 1963 he sat during the 39th legislative period as a member of the Cámara de Representantes . In 1966 he was elected senator, so that from February 15, 1967, as a result of the respective re-elections from the 40th to the 45th legislative period, only interrupted by the phase of the Uruguayan dictatorship, and thus a seat in until February 15, 2005 who held Cámara de Senadores . In 1997 he held the office of Second Senate Vice President. In 1989 and 1994 he also ran for the office of President of Uruguay. From September 29, 2008 to August 17, 2009 he was President of the Board of Directors of the Partido Nacional . His successor in this position was Luis Alberto Lacalle .
