Carlos Nejar

Carlos Nejar , actually Luís Carlos Verzoni Nejar , (born January 11, 1939 in Porto Alegre , Rio Grande do Sul ) is a Brazilian poet and translator.

Life

Nejar graduated from the Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul with a degree in law in 1962 , taught in school from 1966, was a public prosecutor in Rio Grande do Sul and worked for a long time as a public prosecutor in Porto Alegre.

Nejar has been a member of the " Academia Brasileira de Letras " since 1988 and was made an honorary member in 2017. He was also a candidate for the Nobel Prize for Literature .

He has received numerous awards for his translations, including those for Jorge Luis Borges and Pablo Neruda . Nejar is one of the most important authors of his generation. He wrote poetry, prose, essays, children's books, and reviews. His first book Sélesis was published in 1960. The volume of poetry "Von der Grausamkeit der Dinge" was published in 2002 as a Portuguese / German edition by Verlag Jung und Jung, Salzburg, as translated by Kurt Scharf.
