Carlos Peña (2012)

Carlos Hernán Peña González (born June 8, 1959 ) is a Chilean lawyer, master of sociology, rector of the University of Diego Portales and chairman of the advisory board of the Chilean Ministry of Education and columnist of the newspaper El Mercurio .

Life

Peña studied at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile from 1977 to 1981 and was admitted to the bar in 1985. In 1986 he entered the master’s program for Sociología en la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, which he passed in 1988 with honors as the best of his year. At that time he was trying to get his doctorate in the humanities at the Universidad de Chile in a thesis on Rawis.

Peña has been Professor of Civil Law and Legal Philosophy at the Universidad Diego Portales since 1983 . Between 1994 and 2004 he was Dean of the Faculty of Law, and then Vice Rector until 2007, and from March 1, 2007 he is Rector.
