Carlos Salzedo

Carlos Salzedo (born April 6, 1885 in Arcachon , France , † August 17, 1961 in Waterville , USA ) was a harpist and composer .

Salzedo came from a Sephardic family. He studied harp and piano at the music school in Bordeaux and at the Paris Conservatory and in 1909 went to the Metropolitan Opera in New York as principal harpist . From 1924 he was professor of harp at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia .

Salzedo, who as a composer composed primarily for his own instrument , was one of the most important harpists of the 20th century as a soloist and music teacher .
