biography

Valenti's father Carlos Valenti Sorié was Italian. Carlos Mauricio was the third child from the marriage with the French Helena Perrillat . The year he was born, his father went to Guatemala, and three years later his mother moved with the children. The famous works of the artist suffering from diabetes were created from 1908. In 1910 he joined forces with other artists, including Carlos Wyld Ospina , Rafael Rodríguez Padilla , Rafael Arévalo Martínez , Rafael Yela Günther , the De la Riva siblings and Carlos Mérida . In the same year he went to Paris with Mérida, where they met Pablo Picasso . On his recommendation, both enrolled at the Académie Vitti , where van Dongens taught. After months of enthusiastic work, Valenti began to lose his eyesight due to illness, whereupon he was prescribed absolute physical restraint by the doctor. In connection with this he had to give up painting. In October 1912, Valenti shot himself at the age of 23. A part of his work and a sketch are in the Museo Nacional de Arte Moderno "Carlos Mérida" in Guatemala City .
