St. Godehard is a Catholic parish church in the western part of Göttingen (Godehardstraße 22). Your parish of the same name belongs to the Göttingen deanery in the Hildesheim diocese .

The patronage of St. Godehard of Hildesheim reminds us that he was appointed Bishop of Hildesheim by Emperor Heinrich II in the nearby Palatinate of Grona in 1022 .

history

After the number of Catholics in Göttingen had risen sharply as a result of the Second World War , St. Godehard was built in 1958/59 as the third Catholic church in Göttingen after St. Michael and St. Paulus . On 25 October 1959, took place the consecration of the church by Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen . On April 1, 1963, the parish of St. Godehard was established. Since September 1st, 2008, the parish has also included the Catholic churches in Adelebsen , Dransfeld and Grone .

Architecture and equipment

A spacious hall church on a trapezoidal floor plan with narrow quasi- aisles and a slender, free-standing tower was created according to plans by the Bieling, Kassel architects' office . The exterior lives from the contrast of the red brick surfaces with light concrete elements. The sober interior receives its light from behind through the high window slats that fill almost the entire slightly convex portal front. The oval sanctuary attached to the trapezoid is illuminated indirectly from the sides. In 1974 the Mainz glass artist Alois Plum designed a glass wall for the building.

organ

The organ was built in 1979 by the organ building company Vleugels (Hardheim). The slider chests -instrument has 21 registers on two manuals and pedal . The Spieltrakturen are mechanically, the Registertrakturen electrically.
