Carnish ( Gaelic : Carnàis ) is a hamlet on the west coast of the Hebridean island of Lewis . Stornoway , the main town on the island, is about 40 km to the east. The neighboring hamlets of Mangersta and Timsgarry are two and three kilometers away, respectively. The Abhainn Dearg distillery, founded in 2008 on the site of a former salmon farm, is the only whiskey distillery on Lewis in Carnish. It is the westernmost distillery in Scotland.
