from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Carola Standertskjöld (born March 23, 1941 in Helsinki , † November 19, 1997 in Kirkkonummi ), known in the Scandinavian show business only as Carola , was a Finnish pop , hit and jazz singer who worked in the 1960s and 1970s was one of the most successful stars in her country.

Carola had her first hit in 1963 with an adaptation of the Hebrew folk song Hava nagila . She also recorded numerous successful cover versions of international hits: Mä lähden stadiin ( Jackson by Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood ), Rakastan - Saavuthan ( Apres toi by Vicky Leandros ), Se onko hän ( It Must Be Him by Vikki Carr ) and Ei aina käy niin kuin haaveillaan ( You Only Live Twice by Nancy Sinatra).

German speaking success she has made a habit: From gypsy boy from Alexandra Carola made Nuori tumma and from what I want to tell you of Udo Jürgens was Rakkauden jälkeen .

She was also the first Finnish jazz singer to achieve international reputation. Carola made a posthumous comeback in her homeland in 2004. The greatest hits release Parhaat - Tulkitsijan taival climbed to # 4 in the Finnish album charts and drew the jazz album Carola & Heikki Sarmanto Trio with it. This album also hit the charts and was even released a little later in German-speaking countries. It contains previously unpublished studio and live recordings by Carola from 1966, exclusively in English.

She should not be confused with her Swedish colleague Carola , who has also been successfully recording records under her first name since 1983.
