Carole Migden (born August 14, 1948 in New York City ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party .

Life

Migden studied art at Adelphi University and Sonoma State University . She was a member of the California State Assembly from December 2, 1996 to December 2, 2002, replacing Willie Brown . Her successor there was Mark Leno . On December 6, 2004, she took over the mandate of John L. Burton in the California Senate , which she held until 2008; there too, Mark Leno followed her. She fell ill with leukemia in 1997 and was able to fight this disease with various chemotherapies. In 2004 she married her long-time partner Cristina Arguedas in San Francisco . Migden used her political offices several times to promote laws to improve the status of same-sex partnerships.
