Carolina Slim

Edward P. Harris (born August 22, 1923 in Leasburg , North Carolina , † October 22, 1953 in Newark , New Jersey ), known under the name Carolina Slim , was an American blues guitarist and singer. His records have also been released under the pseudonyms Jammin 'Jim , Lazy Slim Jim , Country Paul and Paul Howard .

Many details of his life are unknown, but it is believed that Harris learned to play the guitar from his father. During his time as a traveling musician, he also took on influences from musicians outside the Piedmont area. Around 1950 he moved to Newark, New Jersey, where he recorded his first record for the Savoy label under the name Carolina Slim. By 1953 he recorded 27 songs under different names and for different labels.

In 1953 he went to a Newark hospital with a back ailment, but died of a heart attack during surgery.
