Carolyn Cassady

Carolyn Cassady (born April 28, 1923 in Nashville , Tennessee as Carolyn Robinson ; † September 20, 2013 in Tuscaloosa , Alabama ) was an American writer , painter and muse of the Beat Generation .

In 1946 she met Neal Cassady in Denver , with whom she was married from 1948 to 1963. The couple had three children together. During this marriage there was a love triangle with Jack Kerouac for several years , which was made into a film in 1980 under the title Heart Beat . She was also the model for the protagonist "Camille" in Kerouac's novel On the Road .

In 1983 Cassady moved to London . Her memoir was published in 1990 under the title Off the Road. Twenty years with Cassady, Kerouac and Ginsberg .
