Dame Carolyn McCall DBE (born  September 13, 1961 in Bangalore , India ) has been CEO of the British low-cost airline easyJet since July 1, 2010 .

childhood and education

Carolyn grew up as the only child of British immigrants in India and Singapore. Her Scottish father ran the Far Eastern division of a US multinational textile company and her Irish mother worked for the British Embassy in India. As a teenager she attended the Catholic boarding school for girls in Derbyshire, England.

She received her bachelor's degree in history and politics from the University of Kent at Canterbury and then went to London, where she worked as a teacher for a year. She then went on to study at the University of London , where she did her Masters in Politics.

Career

After completing her studies, she began working as a researcher with the Costain Group, a British construction group from Maidenhead . Her journeys into journalism began when she turned down a job offer for Kevin Kelly's Business Magazine and applied for the position of research planner in the marketing department of The Guardian . She was accepted and started her career there in 1986.

A little later she switched to the sales department. She was the protégé of Caroline Marland and followed her on her career path through the Guardian Media Group. In 1995 she became head of the advertising department at Guardian Newspapers Ltd. (now Guardian News & Media Ltd). In 1999 she contributed to the Guardian Unlimited website and was appointed managing director a year later. In 2004 she climbed the career ladder and became CEO of the publishing house. Another two years later, she became chairman of the board of the Guardian Media Group.

In June 2008 she was inducted into the Order of the British Empire as an officer for her services to women in business .

Since July 1, 2010, she has been CEO of the UK low-cost airline easyJet , where she is also a member of the Board of Directors . At the end of 2017 she will take over the management of Independent Television .

ON December 31, 2015 she was raised to the personal nobility status as Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire and has since had the suffix " Dame ".
