Carpenter is an impact crater on the Moon on the northwestern edge of the Moon's front . It is north of Anaximander and southeast of Anaximenes . The wall has terraces and there is a two-part central mountain .

The crater was named in 1935 by the IAU after the astronomers James Carpenter (1840–1899) and Edwin Francis Carpenter (1898–1963).
