Carpi d'Adige

Carpi d'Adige (Carpi on the Adige , also Carpi di Villa Bartolomea ) is a district of the municipality of Villa Bartolomea in the province of Verona , Veneto region , Italy , with 1030 inhabitants.

Parish church

The parish church of S. Margherita, a single-nave building whose neoclassical facade is adorned by two tourelles with pointed roofs, was built between 1856 and 1864 according to a design by the architect Ferrari Benedetto from Legnago and on August 20, 1864 by Cardinal Luigi di Canossa consecrated. Fifty years later, a free-standing neo-Gothic style campanile was added.

Battle of Carpi

Carpi became known historically through the Battle of Carpi on July 9, 1701, which marked the beginning of the War of the Spanish Succession , and in which the Austrians under Prince Eugene of Savoy succeeded in fortifying the strategically important passage to the Mincio , which was fortified by Field Marshal Saint Frémont and to take the defended place with 1,200 men.
