The Carrefour de l'Arbre is a 2100 m long, between the towns of Gruson and Camphin-en-Pévèle in French Nord situated cobbled sector . It has been an integral part of the Paris – Roubaix cycling classic since 1980 and is considered a highlight of this race.

Characteristic

The Carrefour de l'Arbre is assigned the highest level of difficulty in the Paris – Roubaix cycle race with five stars together with the cobblestone passages Mons-en-Pévèle and Trouée d'Arenberg . The rough and, especially in the first section, the irregular paving places the highest demands on the driver. In the second section the route has a slight incline. In Carrefour de l'Arbre, the last difficult sector, less than 20 km from the finish in Roubaix , the preliminary round of the bike race is often made. So were here last Fabian Cancellara (2006), Stuart O'Grady (2007), Tom Boonen (2009) and Johan van Summeren (2011) settle as soloists from the peloton or from leading groups and save their lead to the finish.

history

The Carrefour de l'Arbre was first included in the program of the cycling classic Paris – Roubaix in 1958. This sector has been a permanent part of the race since 1980. After incidents with drunk Flemish fans who attacked drivers and damaged accompanying vehicles in the 2009 race, spectators at Paris – Roubaix along the sector, with the exception of the Restaurant de l'Arbre, are prohibited from drinking.
