Dagmar von Gersdorff

Dagmar von Gersdorff , b. von Forell (* 1938 in Trier ) is a German writer and literary scholar .

Life

Dagmar von Gersdorff grew up in the Westerwald and passed the high school diploma in Cologne in 1957 at the humanistic grammar school. She then worked for the Kölner Stadtanzeiger and as a feature editor for the Ruhr Nachrichten . She is a member of the PEN Center Germany .

Between 1964 and 1974 she wrote six books for children and young people , which were translated into several languages ​​and were on the shortlist for the German Book Prize for Young People: Die verauschte Isabell (1964), Annett and Peter Pumpernickel (1965), Have Fun with Anemone (1967 ), The cherry tree on the roof (1968), For children: free entry! After marrying Bernhard von Gersdorff in 1961, she studied German and art history at the Free University of Berlin . With a dissertation on Thomas Mann and German Romanticism , she received her doctorate in philosophy in 1978 . After working as an editor at RIAS Berlin , she edited Clemens Brentano's correspondence with Sophie Mereau at Insel / Suhrkamp , who followed in 1984 with the first biography of the poet Sophie Brentano-Mereau.

From then on, von Gersdorff made a name for herself as the author of biographies and biographies which, with one exception - the biography of Marie-Luise Kaschnitz - deal with the great personalities of Goethe's time , most recently Caroline von Humboldt (2011) and all over the world just them.
