Carrick Castle

Carrick Castle ( Irish Caisleán na Carraige or Caisleán Charraig Fheorais ) is the ruin of a hilltop castle in County Kildare , Ireland , about 5 km north of Edenderry in County Offaly .

It is a high tower with a square floor plan, which was originally 27 meters high and had a side length of 9.6 meters. Sir Pierce de Bermingham had this castle built on the site of the O'Connor massacre in the 13th century .

Its location on Carrick Hill offers an impressive view and, as with Carbury Castle , this location was chosen for defense reasons. Unfortunately the castle is in a bad state; only two walls remain. But some details are still visible, e.g. B. Windows and chimneys. To the left of Carrick Castle is an abandoned church and graveyard.
