The Carthamus boissieri is a species of the genus Carthamus in the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

features

Carthamus boissieri is an annual stem thermophyte that reaches heights of 20 to 50 centimeters. The densely glandular plant has a shaggy, woolly and densely spider-weby hair. The stem is straw-colored and has brownish to purple spots. The leaves are gray-green, dull, pinnate and have a few pairs with more or less soft thorny sections. The outer bracts are protruding or bent back, 40 to 50 millimeters in size and 1.5 to 2 times as long as the inner bracts. The inner bracts are elongated-lanceolate, suddenly pointed, entire and have no appendages. The fruit is 4 to 5 millimeters in size. The scales of the pappus are pointed or pointed.

The flowering period extends from June to August.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 20 or 20 + 0-1B.

Occurrence

Carthamus boissieri occurs in the area of ​​the southern Aegean and Cyprus. The species grows on dry cultivated and fallow land. In Crete it can be found at altitudes from 0 to 700 meters.
