Casino Bridge (Brugg)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Casino Bridge is a road bridge over the Aare in the city of Brugg and part of Hauptstrasse 35 in the Swiss canton of Aargau .

location

A little below the old town of Brugg and the Aare Gorge with the old bridge, the modern road bridge leads about 15 meters high over the river. It forms the new, direct connection between the Neumarktknoten intersection at the Brugg train station and the road to Würenlingen on the terrace on the north bank of the Aare. The carriageway is at a height of 344 m. ü. M.

history

After the construction of the A3 motorway from Basel to Frick in 1973, traffic over the Bözberg to Brugg and towards Zurich increased sharply, and the narrow passage through the city of Brugg was regularly congested. After various studies for new traffic routes near Brugg, the so-called middle bypass of Brugg was built between 1978 and 1980. It leads in a low-lying traffic gorge from the train station to the north and through a tunnel next to the Brugg cemetery to the new Aare crossing. The old town was relieved of motor vehicle traffic and could be designed as a pedestrian zone.

The Aare bridge in the middle bypass was renamed "Casino Bridge" in 2000.

Construction engineering

The bridge is constructed as a reinforced concrete structure and has a slightly curved course. It has a length of about 220 meters. On the west side it is equipped with a wide pedestrian path.
