Caspar Oechsle (also Oexle , born February 24, 1752 in Schömberg near Rottweil ; † June 21, 1820 in Kirchberg (Amt Überlingen)) was an imperial prelate and the last abbot of the imperial abbey of Salem .

Caspar Oechsle was born on February 24, 1752 and, probably the day after, was baptized in the name of Johann Nepomuk . His father was the organ builder Samuel Oexle . In 1770 he entered the Cistercian monastery of Salem, where he took the religious name Caspar . He made his profession on November 21, 1771, and received his ordination as a priest on September 20, 1778. On March 11, 1802, he was elected Abbot of Salem by the convent in the third ballot. The benediction by Bishop Gabriel Melchior de Messe took place on September 5, 1802. On September 15th he received the power of attorney general vicar of the Upper German Cistercian Congregation from Rome .

As Imperial Prelate in Salem, he was also a voting member of the Diet of the Holy Roman Empire .

Oechle's waiver of all rights to Swiss monasteries on October 3, 1806 made the Breve In sublimi Apostolicae Sedis Specula possible , through which Pope Pius VII founded the Swiss Cistercian Congregation .

In Schömberg , the Caspar-Oechsle-Platz at the rectory was named after him and a monument was erected in his honor.
