Caspar Schindler-Escher
Caspar Schindler-Escher (born August 2, 1828 ; † May 15, 1902 ; resident in Mollis , from 1855 in Zurich ) was a Zurich silk fabric manufacturer and philanthropist .
Schindler was born as the son of the Glarus politician Dietrich Schindler . After attending industrial school, he studied at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Zurich .
In 1853 he married Wilhelmine Elise Escher , daughter of the silk manufacturer Martin Escher . Her son Dietrich Schindler-Huber became director of the Oerlikon machine factory .
He was appointed the first Austro-Hungarian honorary consul in Zurich in 1872 and held this office until 1885.
In 1907, Schindlerstrasse in the Unterstrass and Wipkingen districts of Zurich was named after him.
