Castanopsis armata is aspecies of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia . The nuts are edible.

Castanopsis armata is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are studded with simple spikes. The spines are straight, close together and completely cover the surface of the fruit cup. The fruit cups, including the spines, are at least four centimeters in diameter, usually 4.5 to 6.5 centimeters. There are two or three of you standing on a rachis .

A single nut is formed per fruit cup. Your scar takes up more than half of the nut and is fused with the skin of the fruit cup.

Flowering time is January to September, mostly from February to April. The fruit ripens from January to December, mostly from March to July.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand, India, Nepal and Myanmar. It grows in deeper mountain forests, in evergreen lowland forest, in pine- mixed deciduous forests and in oak- pine forests. It occurs at altitudes of 100 to 1850 m, mostly 800 to 1100 m.
