Castanopsis cerebrina is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia.

Castanopsis cerebrina is a tree . The leaves are serrate and bare.

The fruit cups (cupulae) are covered with thin, roof-tile-like scales. These are trimmed at the end. The fruit cups are egg-shaped or slightly squeezed, they enclose up to three quarters of the only nut. The scar at the base of the nut is flat.

Flowering time is March to June, mostly March to April. The fruit ripens between March and December, mostly from March to April.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in the north of Thailand and Vietnam . It grows on the ridges of evergreen hill forests and deciduous mixed forests at an altitude of 900 to 1800 m, mostly at 900 to 1500 m.
