Castanopsis malaccensis is a species of tree fromthe beech family (Fagaceae) that occurs in Southeast Asia.

Castanopsis malaccensis is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are studded with simple spikes . The spines are straight, close together and completely cover the surface of the fruit cup. The fruit cups, including the spines, are at least four centimeters in diameter, usually 4.5 to 6.5 centimeters. They stand individually.

The nuts are flattened on one long side, around the umbo there is a star-shaped indument .

Flowering time is February to November, mostly February to August.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand , Malaysia , Singapore and Indonesia . It grows in tropical evergreen lowland forests.
