James Sykes Gamble

James Sykes Gamble (born July 2, 1847 in London , † October 16, 1925 in Haslemere , Surrey ) was an English botanist . Its botanical author abbreviation is " Gamble ".

Live and act

James Sykes Gamble was born in 1847 to Harpur Gamble. He attended the Royal Naval School in New Cross (London) and Magdalen College in Oxford , where he received an MA, and the École Nationale des Eaux et Forêts in Nancy, France . In 1871 he went to India to the Indian Forest Department , where he received the positions of Conservator of Forests and Director of the Imperial Forest School . Gamble has held several university positions and has received several awards. He published several books on the flora of India.

Gamble married Gertrude Latter in 1911.

Dedication names

The genus Gamblea C.B.Clarke from the plant family of Araliaceae (Araliaceae) is named after him.
