Castanopsis piriformis is a tree .

The fruit cups (cupulae) are smooth, have no scales, just three to four wavy lines. The cupula completely encloses the only nut with the exception of the apical umbo. The acorns are pear-shaped, the nuts egg-shaped.

Flowering time is September to December. The fruit ripens from May to December.

Distribution and locations

The species occurs in Thailand , Indochina and Laos . It grows in deciduous Dipterocarpus - pine forests and in dry evergreen forest over sandstone at altitudes of 250 to 950 m.
